Fidus Writer can now create entire books/ebooks/journals

When we started with Fidus Writer, we thought an academic editor would mainly be needed to write papers and individual articles for university students — always individual documents. Fidus Writer will continue to provide that functionality at its core.

But several people looking at adding Fidus Writer to their editing flow also asked us — why not allow the user to combine several documents to create a book? We are now proud to present Fidus Writer as the first and only complete and user-friendly online collaborative book and journal editing solution for academics! You can try it out at http://test.fiduswriter.org Some of us will spend the next three to four weeks fixing the last remaining issues before a 1.0 version is released and the source code will be made available to the public!

  1. Regretfully this only works with Google Chrome. Hope you will support other platforms soon.

    • Hey Brian,
yes we would really like to support at least Firefox. Unfortunately there are a number of bugs in Firefox that makes this quite difficult. I have filed a bug with some of the more urgent matters; https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=873883 but so far there has been no response. I have also been asking on the Mozilla email list about CSS Regions — I never received a good answer on that. It is very unfortunate, but it seems as if Mozilla doesn’t have time for anything else than Firefox OS right now.

If you feel like it, you are very welcome to spend the time programming around the Fireofx issues.
